Lo-fi Sci-fi with Adam Schatz harkens back to the early days of synthesizers and 1960s-1970s sci-fi jazz with the use of tenor sax, organs, bass clarinet, electric bass, drum machines, synthesizers such as Neon Egg's Planetarium, Moog Sub 37, and many more instruments - all passed through tape machines. This experimental pack explores what it looks like to put a slightly modern twist on the avant-garde music of the 1960s.

This Splice Originals pack celebrates Colombia's rhythmic heritage through contemporary and angular grooves inspired by the unique sonorities of the country's traditional hand-made percussion instruments. You'll find the rhythms of cumbia, Bullerengue, chandé, and puya music re-imagined through the lens of beat-heavy and electronic styles like hip hop, reggaeton, house, and trap. Instruments used to make these one-shots and loops include the tambora, bombo, alegre, cununo, chailas, maracón, and guasá.

This is the first of two packs created in collaboration with the Wula Drum Ensemble of the Wula Drum Company, the industry leader in high-quality West African percussion manufacturing. All of the percussive instruments played were made in Guinea. This pack features the kirin, kongoma, two sizes of the dundun (the sangban and kenkeni), and solo and accompaniment djembe, as well as bass djembe. These instruments were used to build traditional celebratory rhythms from the Mandinka people, a West African ethnic group within the larger linguistic family of the Mandé peoples.

Jerusalem-born and Brooklyn-based Zafer Tawil is an accomplished Palestinian musician who specializes in the oud, ney, vocals, violin, qanun, and Arabic percussion. Tawil performs worldwide and holds workshops in the oud technique and Arabic music theory. He's continuously exploring the boundaries of Arabic music and has worked collaboratively on many concerts involving classical Indian and Persian music, as well as jazz fusion.

Take an expedition through the rich sonic landscape of Turkey and parts of Egypt and Iran led by Istanbul Music Conservatory-trained musicians. The trio played traditional tunes with quarter tones and folkloric tunes from all over Turkey. They made these sounds using traditional Turkish instruments including the bendir, daf, darbuka, and riq for percussion; the kaval, kawala, and ney flutes and zurna plus duduk reeds for winds; and the electric baglama.

Typically characterized by dark, gritty, and intense moods, the introduction of steel pan (or steel drum) into trap beats could have been jarring, but rather, it felt like a natural progression. It's the perfect complement to the genre's increased use of triplet hi-hats, punchy snares, and low basslines. The loops vary in style, but lean toward the realm of finger-picked indie folk. The clarity of these sounds mean that they work just as well with singer / songwriters as they do for samples in hip hop and film scores.
