The idea that certain places take on the weight of past events is familiar to all of us. Renowned field recordist Chris Watson has spent years collecting audio recordings from such places in one of his most personal projects.

Soniccouture has launched The Canterbury Suitcase, a new virtual Rhodes instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt Player. Back in June of 2012 we were recording Grand Marimba at Canterbury Music in Toronto. Studio owner Jeremy Darby was showing us his collection of vintage instruments, and let us try his Rhodes Suitcase 88. It immediately struck us as one of the most beautifully maintained and best sounding Suitcases we’d ever played.

Memory Box features articulations such as bowing, muted plucks, double stops and a variety of designed instruments which redefine the sound of a classic music box. Inspired by a traditional 19th century Swiss music box, this library features 10 custom instruments which are all housed within the main interface. Recorded with high end contact microphones on multiple surfaces, we aimed to capture the intimate and fragile tone but with a modern twist.

TRULY UNIQUE PERCUSSION A unique and expansive collection of different stick types played on various "found" objects. STICKS offers many interesting combinations including a steel brush played on a cardboard box, a timpani mallet played on an old wooden drawer, and a bamboo cajon stick played on an 8-foot long piece of sheet metal. In total, there are 80 different combinations of sticks and objects to fill a large variety of different musical styles and settings.
