Maleventum is a Kontakt library inspired by
medieval and Viking horns. We have committed to a deep research in the cinematic sound of
epic war horns from
ancient nordic and celtic cultures, from the carnyx to gjallahorn and bukkehorn (goat horn). We’ve recorded a huge amount of original medieval horn instruments, classical orchestral trombone and tuba, traditional flutes, horn instruments from the pastoral tradition across Europe and even self built blowing horns and pipes. All of them have been processed and layered to create a collection of
epic braams, hunt horn calls, war horns, low tone brass sounds, high pitched screaming trumpets, animal-esque wailing sounds and much else.

Frendo is a custom-built Soundiron instrument. We created this monster by stringing bailing wire around and through steel plates and bolts, over galvanized steel piping and across wood planks. It was meant to suffer. You can help by mistreating it in horrible ways with screwdrivers, bows, drum sticks, mallets and fingers. The instrument holds a vast amount of otherworldly sounds, which is ideal for composers looking for new disturbing, horror-like textures for their scores. Frendo is partially a mallet instrument, recorded with wooden and rubber mallets, but is also a more traditional string instrument, since we recorded finger plucks and bows. It's the sound of Satan's cello, weeping softly for your burning soul.

The Dulciano is a grand piano performed with dulcimer hammers. This unique hybrid instrument produces a similar timbre to a dulcimer or cimbalom, but the longer strings and large soundboard of the piano gives the instrument a richer tone and longer sustain. The instrument also has a much wider playable range than a standard dulcimer or cimbalom (A0 to E6).

Halfway between percussion and melodic instrument sits these glass hand drums. Sonically they are reminiscent of hand drums and halo drums. To capture beauty and quirky nature of these instruments 5x round robins and 3 velocity layers were utilised. What you hear is the sound of the drums being patted, clapped and slapped to unearth their haunting tones. A sound design patch also comes with the instrument, which produces a pad-like sound that would probably work well in a horror movie.

This little beast is a very, very eerie and dark collection of metallic percussive and semimelodic effects, ideal for use in horror and suspense scoring, sound design, trailer effects and post production, experimental and ambient music, or anything else you can think to do with it. The origins of the strange creation/discovery will remain a forbidden secret – even though we had a contest where over 130 people tried to guess its origins. What we can tell you is that we beat and played the hell out of it… or in to it, depending on how you look at it. We used bows, mallets, metal rods, rubber balls, fingers, fists, drum sticks, nylon, metal brushes, rasps and files, water and earth to lift all manner of demon song from this contraption.

Soundiron's Disco 6000 captures the historic sounds of the fascinating Solton Disco 64. This analog synthesizer/drum machine was manufactured in Germany between 1978-1982 in a partnership with Ketron. This is early Italo Disco in a box! It has two SSM2040 filters in it, which were used in early iterations of the famous Sequential Circuits Prophet 5. This gives it a recognizable fat analog tone. It includes 36 keys on the removable keyboard, as well as a variety of knobs and buttons to trigger the drum machine. Disco 6000 has preset rhythmic drum loops, as well as synth sustains and staccatos. We recorded the instrument articulations in wide stereo and direct line in. After that, we hand-crafted twenty evolving atmospheric pads from the source content to make this party more bodacious. If you’re looking for warm funky grooves and radical synths to compose your next 1980 dance track, look no further than Disco 6000.
