Splice Sessions is back - this time, shining the spotlight on Anguilla's rich musical and cultural tapestry. This first pack is a holistic look at all of the genres associated with that part of the Caribbean, including Up Soca (up-tempo soca), Groovy Soca (downtempo soca), Afro Soca (fused with Afrobeats), Reggae, and Zouk due to Anguilla's proximity to St Maarten. Our team recorded this pack at Anguilla Music Academy (AMA) with studio owner Darius James, whose story starts with his birth in Dominica and subsequent touring of the Caribbean with multiple musical acts. AMA is a world-class recording studio and non-profit academy dedicated to educating the local Caribbean community on the techniques and philosophies of recording and producing music.

The Galápagos Islands are one of the most important ecological systems on the planet, often called a unique ‘living museum and showcase of evolution’. Located at the confluence of three ocean currents 1,000 km from continental Ecuador, the Galápagos are home to some of the highest levels of endemism (species found nowhere else on earth) anywhere on the planet. Ongoing seismic and volcanic activity even today reflects the processes that has formed the islands, and together with the extreme isolation of the islands, has led to the development of highly unusual animal and plant life. About 80% of the land birds you will see, 97% of the reptiles and land mammals, and more than 30% of the plants are endemic. More than 20% of the marine species in Galapagos are found nowhere else on earth. Favorites include the giant Galapagos tortoise, marine iguana, flightless cormorant, and the Galapagos penguin. 

Inspiration for Splice Originals - Gutta: Hard Trap comes from the sounds of grimy street rap such as Lil Baby, EST Gee, and 42 Dugg. You’ll find lots of pianos chopped with Gross Beat from Fruity Loops and filtered to get that dark sound. Synths come from the Arturia V8 plugin using heavy saturation. We brought in strings and brass with the new Triton Extreme plugin. Other strings, plucks, and choirs came from the Mellotron with tons of filtering, chopping, and reverb to get that haunting vibe. You can’t have grime without that bounce. Drums are hard-hitting with kicks, snares, and 808s rounding out this pack and bringing it alive.

"Nature has always been my biggest inspiration when I compose," says Copenhagen-based violinist/composer Andreas Bernitt.
