Sonespheres is a series of uniquely sound-designed atmospheric synths, textural pads, evolving soundscapes, nuanced drones and tonal ambiences for Native Instruments Kontakt. Each volume explores film and tv composer and long-time Soundiron collaborator Blake Ewing's unique creative vision, delving into deeper aesthetics, stylized niches and specialty production concepts. This volume was crafted using an array of acoustic and electronic instruments, with a full array of essential user controls to unlock virtually limitless creative potential.

When we make Kontakt instruments, we don't set out to make simple sounding, but well recorded instruments like so many other Kontakt libraries out there. We want to create uniquely voiced instruments that fit into a sonic niche, we as producers would want to use. We wanted a simple Xylophone for Hip Hop, Trap, Pop, and EDM.

The Whale Drum is a modern example of one of the world’s oldest known instrument families: the tongue or slit drum. These progenitors of the “idiophone” family were originally developed in Africa thousands of years ago. They were originally carved from hollow logs or wooden blocks and struck to produce percussive musical tones. It is one of the few instruments considered to possibly predate language itself. Over the ages, slit drums have been substantially refined to allow more accurate intonation and wider key ranges. We selected our whaledrum for its marimba-like warmth, dreamy tone, gentle softly-rounded attack and subtly undulating decay. The lower notes have an especially deep richness to them.
