Ghatam is one of the most ancient percussion instrument from India. It is a clay pot with narrow mouth. Although the ghatam is the same shape as an ordinary Indian domestic clay pot, it is made specifically to be played as an instrument. The tone of the pot must be good and the walls should be of even thickness to produce an even tone. The pot is usually placed on the lap of the performer, with the mouth facing the belly. The performer uses the fingers, thumbs, palms, and heels of the hands to strike its outer surface to produce different sounds. Tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in classical, popular and religious music of the Indian subcontinent, as well as in Hindustani classical music. Idakka is a South Indian Percussion instrument. It is in a shape of an hour glass. It is similar to a Damaru. Idakka is played with a stick. The instrument itself is small, and creates a hight pitch. Unlike other percussion instruments this instrument is not tuned to a particular pitch. Different pitches can be obtained by squeezing the lacing around the instrument, which changes the amount of tension in the skins. Probably the first and the best Idakka library you can ever find.
