Polarity Music EFX Refract In Bitwig

This video is a tutorial on replicating the EFX Refract plugin by Arturia in Bitwig Studio, emphasizing the use of Bitwig's grid. The main points include: Refract Effect Replication: Replicating the basic concept of EFX Refract, a chorus-like effect, within Bitwig. The tutorial doesn't replicate the 3D interface or the harmonizer of the original plugin.

Polarity Music Crazy EQ Modulation Made Easy

In this Bitwig Studio tutorial, I explored creative EQ modulation techniques using the Polymer synthesizer with a saw wave, the EQ+ device, FX grid, and voice stacking. Here's a concise overview:

Dillon Bastan Songbird

Songbird is a MaxForLive audio instrument. It features a simulation of a flock of birds, each bird having its own model of a syrinx (a bird vocal organ) as well as a model of a simple birdbrain that controls the syrinx to create different syllables. Each bird's position, speed, angle, etc in the flock can be mapped to various parameters as modulation sources. This device yields anything from textures, drones, rhythms, harsh/haunting/noisy/pretty tones, generative soundscapes, odd melodies, and of course different sounding bird calls!

Polarity Music Audio Reactive Modulations

I crafted a tutorial on how to use an envelope follower in Bitwig Studio to modulate the frequencies of a filter on a bass track using the amplitude of drums on a drum bus. This approach aims to create dynamic interaction between the bass and drum tracks, preventing the bass from sounding too static and lifeless. Here's a summary of the key points:

Dillon Bastan Samsara

Samsara is a granular looping max for live device that allows for individual control of each grain (or voice). This means that you can set these parameters for each grain individually: start position, grain size, pitch, filter center, short delay time, panning and gain. Samsara is an audio effect and so you can record incoming audio into the buffer to apply the granular looping on. There are several different record modes which makes Samsara useful for live performance looping as well.

Dillon Bastan Ripple Filter

This is a max for live audio effect. The water ripple simulation has two “listeners” that “listen” to slices of the simulation (one listener on the x-axis and one on the y). These listeners can either be an FFT filter or an oscillator bank providing results from lofi/harsh to smooth and pretty. The values of the water on any point of the segment the listener is listening to set the amplitude values of the FFT filter/oscillators. Water ripples can be made either by 2 automatic “drips” or by clicking/dragging the simulation with the mouse (mouse clicks can also be recorded and looped). Additionally, walls can be created in the simulation to control the water flow. For the FFT filter, the input can either be the audio input on the track, and/or from an internal noise oscillator. There are various settings for controlling the water simulation, listeners and automatic drips. The device contains no internal LFOs to keep things simple, but it is highly encouraged to use mod sources like the max for live LFO to create dynamics the listeners :). 100% of sales for Ripple Filter will be donated to charities and organizations fighting against injustices, promoting human and animal rights, and protecting the environment

Dillon Bastan Rhythmorphic

Rhythmorphic is a max for live MIDI Effect. It has four sequencers that can create “non”-euclidean sequences (patterns that are not evenly distributed) by morphing or warping a euclidean sequence by the topology (brightness values) of an image or video. This allows for complex and unique patterns to be generated and modulated. There are several options for image sources (texture generator, dropped image/video files, and a live camera). There are also various options for changing the output MIDI note and modulating just about everything for the sequencers and image settings!

Waldorf Music Rob Papen Signature Sounds for Waldorf M

Rob Papen is a well-known sound designer from the Netherlands and many of his sounds and plug-ins have become legendary. In the 90s he supplied several sound sets for the Microwave 1, which had then just seen the light of day. His “Techno” and “Signature” cards inspired many users and can therefore be heard on countless productions of the 90s. The two sound sets have now been freshly reworked by Rob Papen and optimized on the Waldorf M, for the Waldorf M.

Barely Alive Roland JX-3P for Vital

Introduced in 1983, the JX-Programmable-Preset-Polyphonic analog synth from Roland was a big hit. Released alongside the Jupiter-6, both synths had a second oscillator which set them apart from the Juno. The JX-3P featured a button-only front panel and the classic chorus, whereas the Jupiter retained the knob and faders but had no built in effects.

Dillon Bastan Pathways

Pathways is a sample-based Max for Live instrument that allows users to draw paths (made of small points) for sample playback over a spectrogram interface. The playback path (in blue) is based on which points were drawn first to last, allowing for all kinds of linear and nonlinear playback possibilities. It offers two playback modes that support a variable rate of playback (and freezing) without altering the pitch. This opens up options for approaching time-stretching and filtering. The position of a playhead on the spectrogram (orange lines) corresponds to the filtering and position of the sample that is being played by that voice. This gives users an intuitive understanding of a complex approach to playback.

Dillon Bastan Mouth Play

Mouth Play is a maxforlive instrument that offers unconventional shaping of a vocal tract together with a simulated glottis (brass model) or FM oscillator as a source. This offers a large variety of sonic possibilities: from voice-like sounds (animal, human, monster), breathy sounds, glitchy, harsh, rich/pretty, droney or rhythmic synth sounds. The tract filter has a variety of modulation sources allowing for various qualities and movements.
