Brazilian Phonk has emerged as a dynamic and exciting subgenre within the music landscape, blending the infectious rhythms of Brazil with the distinct sound of Phonk. This fusion creates a captivating musical experience that pays homage to Brazil's rich cultural heritage while infusing it with the urban vibes of Phonk.

In the late 2000s Hip-Hop artists began to incorporate atmospheric horror synth with a heavier style. As a result, new genre born – Witch House. Despite the name, Witch House does not bear similarities to house music, instead applying techniques rooted in chopped and screwed hip-hop, slowed tempos with skipping, stop-timed beats, coupled with elements from other genres such as ethereal darkwave, chill trap and noise.

Drift Phonk is a subgenre of phonk that is characterized by the use of high bass, cowbells and distorted sounds, making the lyrics of the samples often unrecognizable. As Drift Phonk became popular on TikTok, it became more mainstream than the original genre; this, in turn, made the word "phonk" become more associated with the drift phonk subgenre.
