Groove3 NEXUS5: Sound Design Workshop

Groove3 NEXUS5: Sound Design Workshop

If you're tired of using only presets with NEXUS5 and you'd like to learn enough to start creating your own sounds, you're in the right place. In this NEXUS5 sound design video course, synth wiz Stephen O'Connell will show you all you need to know to create your own patches from scratch, including leads, plucks, pads, percussion, and more! By the time you're through with the course, you'll be familiar enough with the synth to start designing your own custom sounds for your very next production. These videos are designed for users with an intermediate understanding of NEXUS5. If you're just starting out, check out NEXUS5 Explained® here!

Stephen welcomes you to the course and begins with an overview of everything we'll be covering and how the course is structured. Then it's down to business, and you'll learn how to build a lead sound using the Vintage Analog oscillator paired with modulators and some effects. Then you'll see how to create an 80s-inspired pluck synth sound with the Wavetable synth and extensive use of the modulators.

Next up is a keys sound, for which Stephen uses the FM operators, resulting in a harpsichord-like timbre. This is followed by a look at a classic 70s-style pad sound, which again uses the Analogue oscillator shaped by layer modulators, global modulators, and other effects.

Other topics include an atmospheric pad (using the Sampler, Step Modulator, and Wavetable), a split keyboard patch (for playing a pad sound with the right hand and a bass sound in the left, for example), drum/percussive sounds (two methods: using resampling and building a kick from scratch), creating your own sampled sound (importing your own sounds into the Sampler, layering them, and adding processing), and more!

Presets are great for getting started with an instrument, but learning to build your own sounds from scratch opens up your possibilities immensely, teaching you skills that will transfer to other instruments as well. See the individual NEXUS5 sound design video tutorial descriptions for more information on all that's included with this course and how you can implement these ideas into your own productions.
