Rapid Flow is an Ableton Live Template with a workflow many pro musicians use to get results fast. It has pre-mixed and mastered samples that are a great starting point for your productions and live set. You will only need Ableton Live Standard (V9 and above) to use it.
Using this template, you will be able to create a track that sounds floor ready in less than 1 hour... and the process will be a lot more fun and happen in real-time supporting your creativity.
I made this template based on 20 years of studio experience and after joining the masterclasses of:
Frank Wiedemann
Sebastian Mullaert
Einmusik
Stimming
Tom Hades
Earthling
Deadmau5
and a few others... Huge thank you to these talented artists for sharing their thoughts and workflows!
What's in the Rapid Flow template?I have taken the best learnings from studio collaborations and these masterclasses to create an inspiring and very fast workflow. As a trained sound engineer I have included my 25+ years mixing experience. The template has:
Pro Workflow for Live and Studio
Live Performance FX
Send FX
Pre-mixed Samples forming 3 reference tracks
Pre-set Channel Settings
Mastering Chain
A/B Comparison setup for reference tracks
Explanation Videos
Bonus Videos explaining Steven Slate VSX Monitoring and Plugin Alliance ADPTR AB - (both not needed for workflow but super useful!) (Hi-res versions of the videos linked above are part of this pack!)
Does it really work? The template is setup to immediately start producing tracks knowing the starting point will always sound great compared to commercially released tracks. That s the use of the samples. You will immediately know how close your kick, bass etc are to a proven target. Since using this workflow I am releasing a track every week, (next to family responsibilities and a full time job!).
Studio or Live? Both! The Rapid Flow template uses a structure that is really simple and fast in the studio and powerful for live performance. The best thing: every track you work on will immediately be ready to be played on stage. No transfer or further editing necessary.
Using a ControllerThis is optional but much more fun. : ) I recommend either the AKAI APC40 MKII or if you're on a budget, the AKAI MIDIMIX. Basically any controller with 8 faders and 8 rotary knobs will do. I take you through the setup in the video.
Will this help my mixing?Absolutely! I found that once you have a proven starting point, it is easy to add new kicks, basses, melodies etc. and know when they sound right. There are also limiters on every channel so you get a good balance when adding new elements. The video also explains what to look for in the Ableton Spectrum Analyzer, so even if you don't have great speakers, you can get visual feedback if something still needs work. The A/B Crossfader workflow to instantly compare your track to reference tracks is the final ingredient. You will not be mixing in the blind and know what to look for.
Why are you sharing this?I want to share this workflow, because I had become quite frustrated making tracks in a time consuming and analytical way. I have seen many friends stuck creating music like this also.... Making music had started to feel like work and was sometimes uninspiring. It would often took me weeks to complete a track and these ended up sounding "overproduced". Sound familiar? Music should be fun but there are often too many technical variables that can take you away from your musical ideas and inspiration. Even if you’re very experienced, it’s easy to get distracted from the essential.
