After a 20-year hiatus, the man often hailed as the most influential amp builder of our time has returned to his rightful place at the forefront of amp design, once again collaborating with Bad Cat to create his legendary sound.

Hey there! We know you're a fan of Mark Sampson's work...and so are we! That's why we're beyond excited to bring you this brand-new ToneX Capture Pack, featuring one of his finest creations and one of our most treasured amps: the early 2000s Bad Cat Black Cat 30R 2x12.

This ToneX Capture pack seeks to recreate the sound of, in our opinion, one of the greatest-sounding amps ever to exist; the Bad Cat Black Cat 30R handbuilt by Mark Sampson himself. After he departed from Matchless, Mark took his talents to Bad Cat and continued his legacy of building some of the world's finest amplifiers; and his Black Cat 30R is no exception. This amp features the circuitry made famous by the Matchless DC30 with its two-channel design featuring a 12ax7 preamp and an EF86 preamp. The 12ax7 channel boasts classic British tones reminiscent of the early Vox years while the EF86 channel demonstrates its prowess with a more precussive and fatter response. To avoid being an exact copy of the Matchless DC30, Bad Cat paired these amps with their speaker which is a modded Celestion. The magic of Mark Sampson though really comes to life when you push his amplifiers. Mark was famous for modding and overloading his output transformers to allow his amps to have an incredible sweep of gain while maintaining the integrity of their definition and clarity. You can experience all of that magic in this capture pack! This pack demonstrates the wonderful cleans these types of amplifiers are known for, along with inspiring edge-of-breakup tones and also some downright gnarly goodness! If you have been following us for a little while now, you probably know that we don't usually buy into the hype. However, in this case, the hype is worth it. This is one of our favorite amps we have ever had the privilege of capturing.

This ToneX capture pack seeks to recreate the sound of one of the hallmark staples from Matchless Amps; the Chieftain. This Chieftain however is not just any Chieftain, it is a 1996 model handbuilt by the legend himself, Mark Sampson. As many of you may know, Mark Sampson was the original founder and designer behind Matchless and has gained worldwide popularity for the seemingly irreplicable magic that he instilled into every single one of his amps. Mark was known for being able to overpower his amplifiers in a way that allowed for them to have unrivaled clarity and definition as the amp moved up in gain. The Chieftain is Mark's take on a classic EL34 sound perfect for deep resonating sparkly cleans. As the amp is pushed you get a classic mild but harmonically rich overdrive reminiscent of very early Marshall's, but this amp is no Marshall copy as it is a wonderful creation of its own.

No longer in production, the London Blue Line is a hand-wired class A amp with the spirit of a 60s Vox. All the chimey goodness you could ask for but with some modernized tone-shaping features. With this amp pack, you can keep the chime without sacrificing low end! You'll get everything from a classic Vox clean to a mid-focused, harmonically rich light overdrive.
