David Hilowitz Distorted Sines by Decent Samples

In my most recent video, I explored the possibility of generating distortion using a bunch of different devices that were not intend for that purpose. I tested each device by putting a sine wave through it and seeing what waveform got produced. I also tested a few actual distortion pedals (Pro Co RAT, Big Muff, and Boss XT-2 Xtortion). For this sample library, I took those experiments one step further by creating an entire sample library out of those distorted sine waves. What you’ll find is eighteen patches, two for each distortion source.

At any given time there are two layers: a lead layer and a “spice” layer which was produced by running the distorted signal through a variety of outboard effects gear.

The controls are a bit unique: the distortion slider determines the sound of the lead layer by fading between a sine wave and distortion. The spice layer fades between the lead layer and the spice layer.

Enjoy!
