N-PHASE SHIFT is a 512 band linear phase delay that essentially let's you phase shift across the frequency spectrum.
The texture of a sound is often highly influenced by the phase of individual frequencies, making manipulating them very transformative on any material.
If you want to give a dry sound character or heavily transform and sweep through the spectrum, N-PHASE SHIFT offers an array of handy tools to get you there fast.
The main control slider adjusts the amount of total phase shift, with 0% being no change to the incoming signal.
The main window you see is your spectrum phase shift curve. a Higher value means more delay for that frequency region.
There are multiple ways you can manipulate or generate a curve.
1. Drawing the curve
2. Generating Smooth curves using the smooth noise button. This results in more natural phase shifting.
3. Generating Noise curves using the brown noise button. This results in more complex convolver-style phase shifting.
4. Resetting and Flipping. You can reset the shape to the basic saw curve with the reset button and you can flip any curve with the flip button.
One core issue with using phase shifters is that they naturally delay a sound overall, which could result in your signal going out of sync with the rest of your song.
N-PHASE SHIFT lets you PRESHIFT the resulting signal using LATENCY COMPENSATION.
This means you can nudge the processed signal back in sync at the cost of added latency.
NOTE: Make sure to disable the Plugdata-fx SAFETY LIMITER, as that will limit your output to below 0dB!
BLUE = Safety Limiter ON.
