Fire-Toolz is the flagship project of Angel Marcloid, an experimental producer & audio engineer based in the Chicago suburbs. Her recent Warp Records debut, ‘Lavender Networks’, follows over 2 decades of DIY and small label releases, touring bands, & solo projects under a plethora of monikers.
The sonic world of Fire-Toolz is deeply and widely inspired, an active listener can catch glimpses of post-vaporwave, cybergrind, metalcore, emo, screamo, prog, IDM, new age, noise and smooth jazz fusion, but the music melts them down into a singular dazzling alloy.
Marcloid has released countless sample packs as Angelic Samples, each with an exhaustively specific sonic focus, but this is the first pack where the challenge is to encompass “Fire-Toolz” as a whole. ‘infinite slime glitch’ is a viscous hybrid of themes. “In my world, dense layers of noise, industrial & glitch seamlessly blend with new age, ambient & shimmering, glistening keyboard music,” Angel tells us. Colorful chords use harmonic gestures beyond the predictable major and minor thinking that “plagues the world of producer tools”. Unstable evolving modulation, reactive noise, contorted beats & multi-personality one-shots are all ready to either sit underneath your tracks, or completely take them over. The source material includes: EMF recordings, processed voices, guitars, zithers, flutes, trumpets, kitchenware, & DIY instruments made specifically for contact mics.
“This pack is meant to both destabilize & revitalize. Melodic, textural, synthetic, physical, all interacting, all with some degree of unpredictability.”
