Moment Blip Pop a Junior Astronaut moment
Junior Astronaut is the artist moniker for Chicago-based producer, engineer, and acoustician Nathan Tipton, whose mission is exploring sound from all aspects. Tipton's technical training in bioacoustics, digital signal processing, and loudspeaker modelling combined with their extensive musical background lays the foundation for a playful but informed world of sound. They've collaborated with Moment alums Giant Claw, Holly Waxwing, Ari Liloia, and of course their sibling Galen Tipton. For Junior Astronaut, new sounds spark new emotion - exploring a sandbox of novel sounds as a pathway toward greater emotional granularity and understanding of self.
'Blip Pop' is an exploration in such a sandbox with guitar at its core. From a new wave of pedal jockey internet noodlers have come hyper-catchy processing techniques for the staple 6-string instrument. Weaving boutique multi-fx hardware, creative chops, and guitar tapping techniques through genres like glitch pop, midwest emo, and brainscratch, Blip Pop offers a plethora of new and exciting ways to splay guitar sounds across time. Bubbly soundscapes, stringy textures, and ear-watering(?) ear candy.
“The guitar's role in music has expanded, continuing to find new forms through niche and popular electronic genres of the internet age…I'm super excited to make some of these extended guitar techniques accessible to more people, and for them to have fun uncovering new sounds to put in their own music!”
