Philly soul, also known as Philadelphia soul, emerged in the late 1960s and reached its peak in the 1970s. Originating from Philadelphia, this genre is characterized by its rich orchestral arrangements, smooth vocal harmonies, and vibrant horn sections. It was pioneered by producers and songwriters Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, along with Thom Bell. Their label, Philadelphia International Records, became a hub for this distinct sound, producing hits for artists like The O'Jays, Harold Melvin and; the Blue Notes, and Patti LaBelle. Philly soul played a significant role in the evolution of Rand;B and laid the groundwork for disco.
This pack features artists Kev Woods on trumpet and Jermaine Dolly on vocals. Dolly is one of the most successful indie gospel artists in the industry currently with an extensive resume to boast. He has been known for carrying the heritage of the philly falsetto singing style of the 70s into contemporary gospel and Rand;B making it his own with high pitch effortless vocal maneuvers, riffs and runs.
Playing on this pack we also have Marcus Myers on drums and some of the in-house Soul Surplus team, John McNeill on bass and Grammy Award Winning producer Joel McNeill composing these loops and playing all of the keys elements
