Emotive Woodwind SoloistsExpanding our series of award-winning legato soloist libraries, Emotive Woodwind Soloists captures the core woodwind instruments with exceptional depth, nuance, and realism.
From Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky to John Williams, the woodwind section has long been a cornerstone of musical storytelling. With Emotive Woodwind Soloists, this organic expressiveness has been distilled into a focused library, capturing the subtle nuance and intimacy of these instruments with a contemporary tone, perfect for dramatic scoring.
Recorded at Nave Studios with some of England's finest musicians, Emotive Woodwind Soloists is designed to blend seamlessly with other instruments in the Fracture Sounds Soloists range. Featuring production-ready microphone mixes and customisable positioning, it offers exceptional flexibility for precisely placing instruments within your mix.
With its innovative features, expressive performances, and seamless workflow, Emotive Woodwind Soloists is an essential addition to any composer's toolkit- designed to streamline creativity and fully immerse you in the emotive strength of woodwinds.
Intelligent ToolsLike our other Soloists libraries, Emotive Woodwind Soloists is powered by the Smart Legato engine, which uses lookahead technology to deliver the most realistic and expressive performances. Additionally, the library features an enhanced Smart Trills engine, first introduced in Petrichor. Simply hold down intervals up to a major 2nd (or a major 3rd on the flute), and a trill is automatically triggered, creating a fluid and intuitive playing experience.
InstrumentationWe have carefully selected the woodwind instruments most commonly featured as soloists in an orchestral setting, including flute, oboe, clarinet, cor anglais, and bassoon. Additionally, a bonus piccolo patch offers unique combinational articulations with the flute. In total, the library features 80 articulations, ranging from expressive legato and sustains to dynamic shorts and trills, providing a comprehensive toolkit for a variety of woodwind performances.
Meet the MusiciansRobert Looman (flute, piccolo) is Professor of Piccolo at the Royal Academy of Music and Principal Piccolo of the Philharmonia Orchestra. Matt Jones (oboe, cor anglais) and Sarah Nixon (bassoon) are seasoned orchestral musicians and educators in the north of England. Sergio Castelló López (clarinet) is Principal Clarinetist of the Hallé Orchestra.
Their expertise and artistry shine through in every note, ensuring an expressive and authentic sound at the highest standard.
Main ArticulationsLegato
Sustained notes with legato intervals and same-note repeats. Features multiple round robins for intervals smaller than a 3rd.
Sustain
Sustained long notes with a medium dynamic and emotive tone.
Staccato
A very short note with a sharp attack. Dynamics are controlled by velocity.
Tenuto (Short)
A short articulation with a rounded attack and extended decay compared to the Staccato. Dynamics are controlled by velocity.
Tenuto (Long)
An extended Tenuto with a more rounded attack and longer decay. Dynamics are controlled by velocity.
Performance Shorts
A multi-articulation that contains all three shorts. Shortest notes are triggered by low velocities; longest notes by high velocities. Dynamics are controlled by CC1.
Sustain (Slow)
Sustained long notes with a slow and more emotive attack and release. This can also be accessed on the main Sustain and Legato using the green momentary keyswitch.
Trills
Automatically selects a trill interval when two or more notes are held (up to a major 3rd on the flute, or up to a major 2nd on all other instruments). For single notes, or notes outside the supported trill range, sustained notes will be triggered instead. On high velocity, trills will have an immediate attack; on low velocities, they will have a slower ramp-up.
Additional ArticulationsShort Trills
Two types of short trill bursts (min2 and maj2)
Performance Short-Sustain
A multi-articulation that triggers staccatos on low velocity, and sustains on high velocity. Dynamics are controlled by CC1.
Swells
Slow crescendo and diminuendo. Releasing the note early will shorten the swell.
Individual Trills
Access the individual trills from the main trill patch with min2 and maj2 intervals (up to min3 and maj3 on Flute). On high velocity, trills will have an immediate attack; on low velocities, they will have a slower ramp-up.
Piccolo BonusA bonus patch with individual Piccolo articulations and combined Flute articulations. There are eight altogether- here are the ones which are unique to this patch:
Sustain (Mono)
Sustained notes played on the piccolo, triggered monophonically, which allows for pseudo-legato playing.
Sustain (Poly)
Sustained notes played on the piccolo, triggered polyphonically.
Performance Short-Sustain
A multi-articulation that triggers piccolo staccatos on low velocity, and sustains on high velocity. Dynamics are controlled by CC1.
