We partnered with Patexx for a deep dive into modern dancehall—an influential genre of Jamaican pop music originating in the late 1970s. Its name is owed to the spaces where popular Jamaican recordings were aired by local sound systems. Initially, the genre was a more sparse version of reggae than the roots style, which dominated much of the 1970s. In the mid-1980s, however, digital instrumentation became more prevalent, changing the sound considerably and becoming increasingly characterized by faster rhythms.

Brooklyn-based and internationally raised reggaeton vocalist Dynasty is finally here to serve up some heat. He brings his encyclopedic understanding of Latin music and his incredible vocal character to this floorboard-lifting sample pack. He reaches far down to the roots of reggaeton and the Dem bow break to deliver a dynamic and heartfelt performance that Splice sound designers captured and cut up into a carefully cataloged collection of loops and one-shots. The Classic 80s Analog Drum Machine - Modified & Re-Sampled The 606 is an analog drum machine from 1982, originally built to accompany the TB-303. The original drum machine's sound is similar to an 808, but perhaps a little more unique. The bass drum, snare and toms are classically analog and warm, and the hi hats and cymbals are unbelievably groovy and organic sounding. The 606 can be heard all over early Plastikman, Aphex, Autechre, Paranoid London and more.
